Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane’s remarkable world-class career took a new turn on Wednesday when it was announced that the leg-spinner would have his first stint in county cricket playing for Worcestershire in the upcoming edition of England’s Twenty Club Blast. Despite still being only 20 years old and not emerging from a major cricketing nation, among other domestic competitions in the Indian Premier League and Australia’s Big Bash League, Lemichane is an experienced T20 campaigner.
In Westershire, he will rejoin batsman Rikki Vessels after playing together for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League.
Lamichane has taken 125 wickets in 96 T20s at an average of Under 19 appearances.
“Sandeep has played in many tournaments and gained a lot of experience in franchise cricket,” Worcestershire coach Alex Giddman said in a club statement.
He said, “He is a leg-spinner, which is a bit of a mystery spin. We believe that we need balance in our team, so we are happy with the signing.
He said, “This is his first taste of playing in England, and I’m sure he will do well and we will have a happy summer.”

Lamichen, a product of Nepal’s Chitwan Cricket Academy, became Michael Clarke’s protection, as the former Australia captain spotted him at a tournament in Hong Kong.
The then teenager got a big break when he was sacked by the Delhi Capitals of the IPL, coached by another former Australia captain, in Ricky Ponting for $ 318,000 in January 2018.
