NEW DELHI: Samsung expanded its wearable lineup with the launch of Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy 4 Classic at its Galaxy Unpacked Event 2021. The main highlight of the smartwatches is that they run on the Wear OS that the company has co-developed with Google. Now it appears that Samsung is considering creating platform exclusivity with the launch of its new smartwatches.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic compatible only with Android
According to an online report, Samsung is ditching iOS compatibility. This means that the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will be compatible with only Android and the iOS users will not be able to pair the wearables with their iPhones. As reported by ArsTechnica, the latest Wear OS smartwatches are not compatible with iOS. However, Samsung also mentioned that it will retain the iOS compatibility for the older Galaxy smartwatches.
Along with this, the consumer electronics giant also confirmed that both the smartwatches can only be used with smartphones running Android 6.0 and above.
To recall, Samsung launched the first smartwatch with iOS compatibility in 2016. The Samsung Gear 2 was the first wearable of the company which was compatible with both Android and iOS operating systems. The smartwatch was powered by Samsung’s own Tizen operating system.

Both the smartwatches come with Exynos W920 SoC paired with 1.5GB of RAM. The wearables also pack 16GB of internal storage. The display of the 40mm Galaxy Watch 4 and 42mm Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is a 1.2-inch AMOLED screen with a 396×396 pixels resolution. Whereas, the Galaxy Watch 4 44mm and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 46mm, offer a 1.4-inch (450×450 pixels) AMOLED display.
The battery of the 40mm Galaxy Watch 4 and 42mm Galaxy Watch 4 Classic pack 247mAh battery. On the other hand, the 44mm Galaxy Watch 4 and 46mm Galaxy Watch 4 Classic pack a 361mAh battery.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic come with BioActive Sensor, which according to the company is a 3-in-1 sensor that uses a single chip to precisely run three health sensors — Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. This means that this sensor will be able to make the Galaxy 4 series monitor blood pressure, detect irregular heartbeat and measure blood oxygen levels.
