“All athletes, support staff and administration will be tested weekly and strict quarantine norms will be established,” he said.

The new SOP states that an athlete, who attends a camp, must take RT-PCR test within 72 hours prior to arrival and be allowed into the center only if the report is negative.
“For national campers who are Olympic potential, COVID must follow a 7-day quarantine with training permission with appropriate protocols, which will be conducted in staggered time with supervision by coaches.”
In addition, RT-PCR testing will be conducted for national campers each week on quarantine and on the sixth day thereafter.
“If tested negative, they will be allowed to be trained and treated according to state government protocols, if tested positive.”
The strict SOP was announced on the day that 24 players and 12 support staff members tested positive for the virus at SAI’s Bhopal center.
According to the SAI, positive cases occurred during two rounds of precautionary tests on April 3 and 6.
The SAI Bhopal center is not home to any Olympic potential.

On March 31, after 741 precautionary tests were conducted at the National Center of Excellence in Patiala and Bengaluru, 30 players and support staff were found to be COVID-19 positive under discipline.
