On this day in 2012, the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar has become the first and so far only one cricketer to score a century. Playing against Bangladesh in Dhaka, the “Master Blaster” reached a magical three-point mark for the last time in his international career. Recalling the occasion, the Board of Control for Cricket in India tweeted, “Century of centuries! In 2012, #Blasters @MasterBlaster @ Century_ became the only batsman in the history of cricket to score a 100th international century.”

It was his 49th ODI century, which he saw in Test cricket to go with 51 tons.

The milestone came at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. He scored a century off 138 balls and was dismissed for 114 off 147 balls.

He helped India finish at 289/5, but his final international century was unfortunately lost, as Bangladesh chased down the total with four deliveries.

Tendulkar leads the list of international centuries by a big margin. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is behind his 100 centuries, while Virat Kohli is still behind with 70 centuries.

Promoted

Tendulkar finished his career record with 200 Tests, 463 ODIs and a T20 International. He scored 15,921 runs in the longest format and 18426 runs in ODIs and remained the highest run-scorer in both formats.

Tendulkar is currently leading the India Legends team in the ongoing Road Safety World Series.
