Like everyone else in Seattle, Carlos Dunlap was wondering during the NFL free-agency period whether Russell Wilson would like to become a member of the Seahawks. Unlike most people in Seattle, Dunlap was able to ask Wilson directly about his status with the franchise.
Before he re-signed with the Seahawks on a two-year deal last month, Dunlop, who was traded from Cincinnati to Seattle midway through the 2020 season, spoke to Wilson and received some encouraging news. Wilson had previously expressed disappointment with the organization, leading to considerable rumors and speculation in the trade, but the veteran defensive end received a reassuring message from the Pro Bowl quarterback.

“I asked him if, apparently, he was going to be with us, because if I’m coming back, I’m coming back because I see him as my quarterback and the rest of the team, I want to pick him Dunlop told reporters on Tuesday, “” And he told me that he is with us and that he is here to stay, and he said, ‘Let’s go, Hawks. “
“I am not going to quote every word of his. These words are not his words.
Several reports indicated that Byers led the Wilson trade offensively and made a monster offer, including three first-round picks. The Seahawks remained calm on that front, however, and now with offside, Wilson is likely to be Seattle’s starting QB for Week 1 of the 2021 campaign.
For Dunlap, there was no debate about his favorite team. The 32-year-old always wanted to be with the Seahawks, even though he was initially released for salary cap reasons.
“They were very transparent, and it was something that I appreciated from day one,” Dunlap said. “When we were signing and trading, they told me it would be a possible move [offseason]. And then when it actually happened, yes, it’s still different because I’d never been bitten before, but they were still very transparent.
“They wanted me to know that they wanted me back, it was just a trick they had to do because of the situation they were hat-wise.”
