Rias, swamp deer arrive at Pilicula Zoo

White Rhea, Brown Rhea and Swamp Deer are now new attractions at the Pilicula Biological Park.

The director of the park H.W. According to Jayprakash Bhandari, the park has brought him under the animal exchange program from Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, Kerala.

Rias is the largest flying bird in South America. The park now has one pair each of White Rhea and Brown Rhea.

A special feature of Rheas is that once the female lays eggs, the males incubate them. Once the chickens made herds with the male, he said.

Mr. Bhandari said that there are three swamp deer in the park. They are also known as Barsingha found in the Indian subcontinent. They are endangered species found in some special regions of North India and Nepal.

In return, the park has sent three King Cobras and two pairs of Whitakara Boa to Thiruvananthapuram Zoo.
