The list of remaining candidates, published on Friday by the All India NR Congress, pointed to a direct fight between the party and its rival Congress in the eight assembly segments.
AINRC candidates are pitted against the Congress in constituencies such as Kadirgam, Indira Nagar, Aryankuppam, Manavelli, Iambalam (SC), Nettapakkam (SC), Nedungadu (SC) and Mahe.
Two turncoats
AINRC chief n. In Kadirgaman and Indira Nagar, the traditional strongholds of Rangasamy, the party fielded two turncoats from the Congress against national party candidates.
While the AINRC won the Congress candidate P.A. in Kadirgam. N. against Selvandane. Ramesh has been fielded, but the prime opposition party has fielded Congress candidate M in Indira Nagar. AKD Arumugham is pitted against Kannan.
Former Chief Minister V. Mr. Ramesh and Mr. Arumugham, considered close to Narayanasamy, left the Congress just days after the election was announced.
The candidates of rival parties will also be face-to-face in the three reserved constituencies of Mbalam, Nettapakkam and Nedungadu.
In Iambalam, an interesting contest will take place on cards, with U Lakshmikandan of AINRC, leader of the fiery trade union and former MLA P.D. Uthirvelu, former minister m. Kandasamy will be replaced.
In another reserved constituency of Nettapakkam, former AINRC minister P.W. Rajavelu, Mr. Uthiravelu’s brother, MLA V. Will face Vijenve.
AINRC again Sitting MLA S. from Nedungadu. Chandraprianga has been fielded. A of Congress to him. Will be pitted against Marimuthu.
In Mahe, the party had former chairman of the Waqf board V. P. Abdul Rahman was fielded against Congress first-timer Ramesh Premabath. Other candidates announced on Friday include B. Gobika (Thiruvubai), SV Sugumaran (Villianur) and G. Are Panneerselvam (Ozhukarai).
