Puducherry Assembly Election |  AINRC chief contested from Thatanchavadi, Yanam

Two other AINRC, Congress and AIADMK and three members of BJP filed their leaflets, although their parties have not officially announced the list.

Founder President of All India NR Congress and former Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has decided to contest from the Thatanchavadi and Yanam assembly constituencies.

He revealed the decision to contest from two seats after filing nomination papers for Thatanchavadi on Monday. “I will file nomination papers for Yanam on Wednesday,” he told reporters after presenting the papers to the registrar’s office of cooperative societies.

It may be recalled that while facing the 2011 assembly elections a few days after the establishment of the AINRC, Mr. Rangasamy decided to contest from Indira Nagar and Kadirgam constituencies.

Although he won both seats, he decided to retain Indira Nagar. He again won the Indira Nagar seat in the 2016 election.

Former minister’s invitation

Last month, former Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao, who retained the Yanam seat in the last five assembly elections, invited Mr. Rangasamy to contest from his constituency following his decision to quit electoral politics.

Meanwhile, two other AINRC, Congress and AIADMK and three members of BJP also filed their nomination papers on Monday, although their respective parties have not officially announced the candidate list.

While former minister K. Lakshminarayanan filed nomination for Raj Bhavan seat as AINRC candidate, with recently joined member AKD Arumugham filing leaflets for Indira Nagar constituency.

Yes. Nehru, an AINRC member, submitted papers to contest from Orliapet as an independent candidate.

Congress MLAs RKR Ananthamaranam and T. Jemurthy filed nominations for their respective Maveli and Aranyakuppam constituencies.

Even when the AIADMK was engaged in sharing the seat with the BJP, two prominent members of the Dravidian party, Om Sakhi Segar and sitting MLA Vayapurai Manikantan, also filed papers.

Mr. Segar filed papers from Nelithop constituency, which he had previously won. Mr. Manikantan presented papers for the Muthialpet seat for his seating.

Interestingly, former Congressman J.K., son of BJP member John Kumar. Vivilian Richters turned down and filed nomination papers to contest as a BJP candidate from Nelithop constituency.

Meanwhile, Kumar filed his leaflets from his Kamaraj Nagar constituency.

BJP member PML Kalyanasundaram submitted pamphlets for Kalpet constituency, which he won while being an AINRC member.

DMK candidates who were to be officially announced earlier also started submitting nominations.

The leader of the party in the Legislative Assembly R. Siva recently joined s. Leaving his traditional seat for Gopal, filed leaflets for Villianur constituency.

Mr. Gopal filed nomination for the Orleinpet constituency.

Former Minister and Convenor of DMK (North) SP Shivakumar submitted nomination papers for Raj Bhavan constituency.
