Krishna District Collector A.M. Imtiaz said that the district had seen a slight increase in the number of COVID-19 infections and positivity rates so far in March. He said that most of the new cases were from Vijayawada and Jaggaipeta.
Mr. Imtiaz said in a release that the district registered 2,280 cases in December 2020, 830 cases in January, 251 in February and 340 cases so far in March.
He said there was a slight increase in the positivity rate in February from 0.4% in February to 0.65% in March.
He said that contact tracing of the infected persons showed that most of them went to the functions and places of large ceremonies.
Mr. Imtiaz said that only COVID appropriate behaviors, including wearing masks, cleaning hands and vaccinating among others, can help in the transmission of the virus.
Vaccination
Mr. Imtiaz said that so far 1.25 lakh people have taken the first dose of the vaccine and more than 22,000 people have taken the second dose. There are 230 active COVID infection cases in the district.
