Problems are increasing in Kozhikode Kang.

Based on the decision of the Kerala Union Congress Committee (KPCC), a Kutiyadi model revolt is brewing in the Congress party, led by Mandi to give the Perambra and Elathur assembly seats to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the National Congress Party Kerala (NCK). Is offering C. Kappan respectively under a seat-sharing agreement within the United Democratic Front (UDF).

So far, IUML and NCK have not announced their candidates in these areas. Incidentally, both these constituencies were unsuccessful in the 2016 assembly elections that sent the CPI (M) -led Left Democratic Front (LDF). [In Kuttiyadi, disgruntled supporters of the CPI(M) took to the streets against the party handing over its traditional seat to Jose K. Mani faction of the Kerala Congress (M)].

Janata Dal (United), now known as Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD), contested from Ellathur and Kerala Congress (M), Perambra section.

“Casey (M) had been unsuccessful from the seat for a long time. Now Congress should have contested from the seat. KPCC President Mullappally Ramachandran had earlier promised us during a visit to Kozhikode that a Congress candidate would fight Perambra, ”said PP Ramakrishnan, president of the Congress Mandal Committee, which is leading the protest.

“We are not against IUML,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said.

In the case of Elathur, local leaders alleged that the Congress should field a candidate of a party instead of offering a seat to an abusive political unit. Even the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which won seats in the 2011 and 2016 elections, has a voter-base in Elathur. He said that its leader AK Sasindran was victorious in both the elections, winning only with the solid support of the CPI (M).

Initially, the Congress party had decided to give a seat to the Bharatiya Janata Dal, a stalwart of the Janata Dal, which also has no political presence in Kozhikode, saying that the Congress-led UDF candidate would finish third. Election race if Ilathur seat was given to NCK.

However, KPCC leaders said that Elathur was worked under a seat-sharing arrangement. In addition, the UDF may seek to cash in on popular dissatisfaction with Mr. Sassendran’s candidacy in Elathur.
