Prestige battle between GTD, Mahesh

The polling for the much awaited elections of Mysuru District Cooperative Milk Producers Associations Limited (MYMUL) concluded peacefully here on Tuesday.

Although elections were not held on party lines, the election of cooperative bodies was a proxy war between former ministers GT Deve Gowda and SR Mahesh, both JD (S) MLAs, whose followers were in the race for 15 terms. Director of MYMUL.

Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy also campaigned for candidates supported by Mr. Mahesh. Mr. Gowda is keeping a distance from the JD (S) leadership.

While 7 directors were to be elected from Mysuru sub division, the remaining 8 were from Hunsur sub division. Of the 15 directors’ posts, 11 were for general category, while 4 were reserved for women. The Electoral College consists of more than 1,050 voters and the training center was held at the Karnataka Milk Federation’s (KMF) training center at the Mega Dairy campus at Alanahalli on Bannur Road between 9 am and 4 pm.

Qualified voters were seen in mini buses and other vehicles from different parts of the district to choose from a total of 29 candidates.

GD Harish Gowda, son of Mr. Gowda, who is also the chairman of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar District Cooperative Central Bank, visited the venue. The voting process ended smoothly, except for a minor verbal spat.

The run-up to the elections saw Mr. Kumar campaigning in favor of the candidates supported by Mahesh, arguing that Mr. Gowda is trying to ‘abolish’ the JD (S) in Mysuru district. The former CM never allowed Mr. Gowda to return to the fold of the party, as long as he was at the helm of JD (S) affairs. He claimed that to stop corruption in MYMUL it was necessary to defeat the candidates who supported Mr. Gowda.

Meanwhile, Mr. Gowda said that he never left the JD (S) and accused Mr. Kumar of attacking him.
