Brighton made it six points clear of the Premier League charge zone with a 3–0 comprehensive win over Newcastle on Saturday to put more pressure on Magpies boss Steve Bruce. Leandro Trosser, Danny Welbeck and Neil Maupe were the targets of the Seagulls as Graham Potter’s men dominated the field once this season. “Our performance in the middle of the box has been really good, we have been a little less in the box,” said Potter. “The game gets a little easier when you score.”
Brighton had won just once at home in the league since June, but fears of Newcastle allegations increased.
Bruce’s men remain just two points away from third-seeded Fulham, even if it is with the upcoming game.
However, the pace is against Newcastle as they have won just two of their last 19 matches.
Bruce said, “It’s hard to digest at the moment. We just weren’t anywhere near night.”
“Fair play for Brighton, they were better in every department.”
The visitors suffered the latest in a series of injury injuries as Isaac Hayden was pulled off just before half-time like a serious knee problem.
Brighton took advantage of the time of the first half stoppage due to Hayden’s injury as Trossard cleverly kept the ball under control and cut the bottom corner inside before hitting it well.
Shortly after Ryan Fraser restart Newcastle came closest to the reaction, hitting the post.
Promoted
But it was Brighton who doubled their lead in 51 minutes when Welbeck followed Trossard’s example with an accurate low finish from the outside of the area into the far corner.
Moopa scored from home Pascal Gross’s cross, scoring 22 minutes from time.
