Pollachi case: Judicial remand extended

The Women’s Court of Coimbatore on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of three people arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for their alleged involvement in the Pollachi sexual harassment case in January this year.

Three accused – Aaron Paul (29), k. Arulantham (34) and p. Babu aka ‘Bike’ Babu (27) was produced before the court and the judge remanded him to judicial custody till 31 March.

Arulantham, Babu and Paul were arrested by the agency on 5 January. The day after his arrest, the AIADMK expelled Arulantham from the post of student secretary of the party’s Pollachi town.

Two were detained under the Gunda Act

The Coimbatore City Police enforced the provisions of the Gunda Act against two people from Singanallur for their involvement in robbery cases.

Among those taken into custody were Mohan Kumar (19) of Nilikonapalam and Gautam (20) of Varadharapuram. Singanallur police arrested him on February 28 in a robbery case. He was detained on Monday under the provisions of the Gunda Act, the police said in a release.
