Pilicula Development Authority to come into effect from April

The Pilikula Development Authority will come into force from 1 April 2021 with the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada as its president.

The Authority is formed under the Pilikula Development Authority Act, 2018. It is a total of 23 member bodies.

There will be a Commissioner to manage the day-to-day affairs of the Authority who shall be the ex-officio Member Secretary of the Authority.

It will have 17 ex-officio members. MLA of Mangaluru City South, Mangaluru City North and Moodabidri, President of Mudushede Gram Panchayat and Captain of the Pilikula Golf Course are its members. In addition, the government must nominate three members who specialize in the fields of culture, wildlife, botanical life, science, technology, heritage, fisheries and tourism.

Dr. The executive director (in-charge) of Shivaram Karanta Pilikula Nisaragadhama Gokuldas Nayak told a team of journalists on Friday that the two societies currently manage the Nisaragadhama and Pilikula Regional Science Center. From next month, the authority will manage both.

Mr. Nayak said that the annual expenditure of Nisaradhama was 5 crores and the fee from the gate collection a year ago (pre-COVID-19 period) that was 3.5 crores per year. Gate collection decreased during the period of COVID-19. He said, “Tourist crowd in Nisargama has reached only 50%.”

Mr. Nayak said that the Innovation Hub Project and the Urban Eco Park Project are currently underway in Nisargama.
