More than 1,000 people were fined osed 200 for not wearing masks in public places across the district on Friday.
The district administration had warned people against the spread of COVID-19 and made it mandatory to wear masks.
Also, it advised people to ensure personal distance while staying in public places.
Officials from the Department of Revenue, Health and Corporation personnel inspected the shops along with police personnel and also monitored public movement in arterial roads and market areas. More than 1,100 individuals who were not wearing masks were charged in a single day.
Corporation officials said shops in the city limits were inspected to see if hand sanitizers were placed at the entrance or a thermal scanner was used to scan customers. He said that the inspection would continue in the coming days and added that more cases were registered against the people for not wearing masks.
