Pelé on Sunday congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo for ‘breaking the record’ of goals scored in official matches. Portuguese star Ronaldo went on to win over Cagliari in a 3–1 Serie A win for Juventus, scoring a total of 770 goals. The 36-year-old took to Instagram to tell his 270 million followers that he can now claim the record, matching Pele’s 767 on March 2. “I am filled with joy and pride as I accept the goal that puts me over the top,” Roldo wrote, the goal list of the world overcoming Pelé’s record, something I could never even think of in a dream Was.
The 80-year-old Brazilian great Pelé wrote to his 5.8 million followers on Instagram, “Congratulations on breaking my record in official matches.
“I admire you very much, I like watching you play and it’s no secret to anyone.
“My only regret is not being able to hug you today.”
“Cristiano life is a solo flight. Each makes its own journey. And what a beautiful journey you are!”
Pelé – the only player in history to win three World Cups – has claimed 1,283 goals in total, including unofficial matches.
Ronaldo’s goals include 668 for club sides – five with Sporting Lisbon, 118 for Manchester United, 450 for Real Madrid and 95 for Juventus. He has also scored 120 runs for Portugal.

Some media, however, combined both Ronaldo and Pelé to put Czech Josef Beacon on 805 goals.
Former Brazilian striker Romario has also claimed a career-high 1,000 goals, including informal matches. Other sources attribute him to 772.
