Passengers complain of electric pole malfunction

At a bus-shelter site on the Mount-Poonamallee Main Road, indefinitely the Tangedco electric poles do little to protect passengers. In addition, it makes it easy for these passengers to board buses.

Constructed three months ago under the Member of Local Area Development Scheme at a cost of Rs 6.5 lakh, the bus shelter is being operated by Ayyappanthangal Gram Panchayat under Kundrathur Panchayat Union in Kanchipuram district.

All buses heading towards the bus terminus at Poonamallee and Kundrathur stop at this stop.

Resident of Ayyapanthangal b. “The electric pole needs to be moved to a safe place,” says Pavitra.

Mount – Poonamallee Main Road is widened between St. Thomas Mount and Sri Ramachandra Medical College cum Hospital (SRMC) at Porur where the boundaries of Greater Chennai Corporation end.

However, due to land acquisition problems at a distance of about 4 km, the stretch between Ayyappanathangal and Poonamallee has not been widened. Therefore this section of the road sees traffic congestion, especially in times of congestion. The problem is compounded by unauthorized parking of vehicles, including private buses, which further feed into the road space. Lean electric pole is a new safety hazard on the road.

“The electric pole will be moved as soon as possible,” says a Tangedco official.
