Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said on 10 March that the state governments should support the national transporter in completing all the pending projects.
Participating in the proceedings of the Question Hour, Mr. Goyal said that governments prior to 2014 announced railway projects “without allocating funds” for execution.
He said that the Modi government increased the investment in railway infrastructure to 2.15 lakh crore in the budget 2021-22 from Rs 40,000-45,000 crore in 2013.
“Our government is working to complete all the pending railway projects,” Mr. Goyal said, adding that the railways are not getting support from many state governments.
“Work on a railway project in West Bengal has been going on since 1974, the state government is not supporting us,” he said. “Now the time has come, all the state governments should support the railways [in completing pending projects]”
