The Union Home Ministry informed Parliament on Thursday.

The government may suspend telecommunications services, including the Internet, under a temporary suspension of telecommunications services (temporary or public safety) in an area through an order issued by the Union Home Secretary or the Home Secretary of the state, as the case may be. To maintain law and order, he said.

In response to a question asked by Minister of State for Communications Anand Sharma, the Minister of State for Communications said, “MHA has further stated that during the year 2020 it has not issued any order for suspension of internet services.”

Mr. Dhotre said that the MHA has informed that no centralized database has been maintained by him in this regard.
