Describing the death of MP Mohan Delkar as ‘a blow to the dignity of Parliament’, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule on Wednesday urged Speaker Om Birla to refer the committee on the allegations made in Parliament.
In the memorandum sent to the President, Ms. Sule, MP from Baramati constituency in Pune district, said that she was “shocked” by the tragic death of a seven-time Lok Sabha representative from the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
“The fact that a 7-time MP was frustrated to the extent that it would lead him to extreme disappointment and the move to end his life is painful for all of us … We have lost a fellow member. It It is not just the loss of life, but also the dignity of Parliament. The independence and supremacy of Parliament rests on the discharge of duties free of any fear or fear by its members, “Ms. Sule’s memorandum, Congress’ Shashi Tharoor, Read signed by MPs from other parties including Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party and members of Shiva. Sena, DMK, Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Following the memorandum, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Wednesday that Mumbai Police had booked Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu administrator Prafulla K. Patel in connection with the death.
Ms Sule recalled Dalekar’s last speech to Parliament in September when the latter spoke of the alleged “pressure and humiliation” imposed on her by UT officials.
To ensure that the dignity and independence of Parliament does not deteriorate from Mr. Birla, he said that as Speaker, he was the “Protector of the House”.
He said that the chairman should take cognizance of the death and ensure that such incidents are prevented.
Ms Sule said that the Maharashtra government had handed over the investigation to a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
