Pacific’s US Air Force band collaborates with Indian percussionist, releasing online video

The United States Air Force Band of the Pacific has collaborated with Indian musician Giridhar Udupa, and released a music video online on 15 March. The musical collaboration was inspired by the band’s commitment that supports Aero India 2021, and strengthens the US-India Major Defense. A press release stated that there is a partnership and people-to-people relationship between the two countries.

The song in the video, ‘Open Clusters’, was composed by Staff Sergeant Luis Roza, a saxophone instrument with the Hawaii-based Air Force Band, and is a musical fusion of two mentors of Indian and Puerto Reno culture and rhythm. . The music video features Ghatham as Girdhar Udupa, and senior airman Guy James on guitar, Staff Sergeant Andrew Detra on bass, and Technical Sergeant Wilfredo Cruz on percussion.

The USAF Band of the Pacific is a squadron of professional US Air Force musicians who serve diverse musical configurations and community relations and military functions throughout the Western Pacific. Ghatam artiste Giridhar Udupa of Bengaluru has had a musical journey of three decades, and has performed worldwide with many artists.

Speaking about this collaboration, Chief Technical Sergeant Wilfredo Cruz, United States Air Force Band of the Pacific Propaganda Department, stated that they are extremely honored and grateful to be able to build this musical collaboration for audiences worldwide. “Pandemic did not allow us to perform live in India during Aero India, yet the music connects everyone regardless of distance or boundaries. We leverage the power of music to strengthen bonds with our friends and partners through the Indo-Pacific region.

Mr. Udupa said that the composition fits perfectly into the world music scene. “I am very excited about the newly formed track with incredible musicians from the US Airforce band,” he said.
