One of Sky TV’s best features is now available on these much cheaper rivals

Sky Q users have long been able to pick up their remote hit the voice search button and bark numerous orders at their set top box. Since this technology launched back in 2017 Sky has been busy updating things with customers now able to find content, skip adverts, change channels and even record favourite shows without scrolling through endless menus.

The new Sky Glass TV, which has just gone on sale, also now features impressive voice search that makes watching telly easier and and finding programmes across numerous platforms much less of a hassle.

It’s clever stuff but sadly, these systems aren’t cheap with the basic Sky Q package costing over £25 per months and Sky Glass priced at over £38 once you start adding Sky’s catalogue of content.

If that all sounds a bit rich then there’s good news with streaming service Roku, announcing the launch of a new remote control that features full voice controls.

Until now, Roku only shipped this improved remote with its more premium devices such as the Streaming Stick 4K and Streambar.

That’s all changed from today with customers now able to purchase the clever channel changer separately.

That means if you already own the entry-level Roku Express stick you can now make it smarter by adding this new accessory.

Roku says that its voice remote is available from stores including Very and Amazon with it costing just £19.99.

Just like Sky Q and Glass, it enables you to search for actors, directors, movie and TV shows titles. Plus, with the recent Roku OS 10.5 update, you can also dictate email addresses and passwords with your voice instead of using the onscreen keyboard.

Finally, you can use your voice to launch channels, a favourite show, or even listen to music albums.

Speaking about the update, Roku’s Mike Duin, said: “The Roku Voice Remote enables you to just say what you want to watch. Just press the voice search button and search for actors, directors, movie and TV shows titles. Plus, with the recent Roku OS 10.5 update, you can also dictate email addresses and passwords with your voice instead of using the onscreen keyboard. Already know what you want to watch? Jump straight in! With Roku Voice Remote, you can use your voice to launch channels, a favorite show, or even listen to your favorite album.”

Roku promises that its new Voice Remote is compatible with most recent Roku players and Roku TV models.
