Australia women set a new world record in international cricket by beating the New Zealand women by six wickets in the first ODI at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday. This victory helped Australia break the record for most consecutive wins in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), defeating Ricky Ponting’s 2003 Australian men’s team. The win against New Zealand was Australia’s 22nd win. The Australian women’s cricket team last lost in ODIs in October 2017.

New Zealand women gave Australia a target of 213 runs on Sunday at Mount Maunganui.
Opener Lauren Downs smashed 90 off 134 balls for the hosts. Captain Amy Satterthwaite and Amelia Kerr hit 32 and 33 runs, with New Zealand reaching 159/2 in 37 overs.
However, after Kerr departed, New Zealand suffered a dramatic collapse and were bowled out for 212 in 48.5 overs.
Megan Shutt was the Australian bowlers’ choice, taking four wickets and conceding 32 runs in nine overs.

Australia did not have the best chance of chasing down Rachel Haynes (14) and captain Meg Lanning (5) cheaply. Alyssa Healy, however, played an innings of 65 runs off 68 balls and took the audience to a strong position.
Ellis Perry scored an unbeaten 56-run knock, while Ashley Gardner hit an unbeaten innings of 53 off 41 balls with three sixes and the same fours as Australia reached the target in just 38.3 overs.
