No more speculation on Harry Kane’s future, wanting to play Jose Mourinho

José Mourinho declined to “play the game” over speculation about the future of Tottenham Hotspur star striker Harry Kane, as he linked up with Premier League rivals Sergio Aguero’s place in Manchester City. Mourinho said he did not know that England captain Kane always had a smile on his face “but he is always professional”. Kane has reason to smile as Korean star Son Hyung-min – with whom he has formed a highly effective partnership – is fit to return for Sunday’s clash with the struggling Newcastle.

The son suffered a loss to Arsenal in North London and missed two games with Japan as well as his country friendly last week.

In an effort to convince Kane to stay with his boyhood club, Mourinho’s case will help end the drought of the Spurs Trophy with Champions League football next season.

Both are within reach.

The Spurs revive league form with four wins in five league games, following a dangerous slump, just three points away from fourth-placed Chelsea.

They also have a date with Manchester City in the final of the League Cup – the last trophy they won in 2008 – on 25 April.

“I can’t play that game,” Mourinho recounted speculating on Kane’s future.

“I have to focus on what it is for us. I am always happy when my players go to their national teams and do well,” he said.

“I don’t know if he always has a smile on his face, but he’s always professional. He has some good challenges, one to play the final, one challenge for Europe and the Euro.”

The son’s return will be a joy to his comrades as he enters the commercial end of the campaign.

He and Kane have contributed 30 of the Spurs’ 49 league goals this season and have 22 assists between them.

“Son is good. He will be chosen,” Mourinho said.

“He was injured, he trained fully with the team for the first time this morning. On Sunday he was coming to do partial practice, not a full session, this morning was the first day he did it.”

“He did not train at all last week, so it was completely impossible to play international. This was a good chance for him to recover.”
