No government communication threatens employees of jail term social media platforms: IT Ministry

The IT Ministry has stated that the government has never threatened employees of any social media platform, such as Twitter, jail term.

The IT Ministry stated that recent social media-related guidelines require platforms to create a robust complaint redressal mechanism for users.

“None of the government communications, either written or oral, have ever threatened employees of any social media platform during the jail term,” it said.

“The government welcomes criticism and dissent. However, of late, repeated instances of social media misuse have led to hatred, discord and violence by terrorist groups outside India and the spread of transformed images of women .In particular, female users have become a matter of serious concern.
