NIA accuses 3 Bodo militants of assassinating Assam police officer in 2014

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which took charge of investigating the case in August 2019, said that members of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-S) were ambushed.

On Saturday, an official said that the NIA has filed a charge sheet against three Bodo militants before a special court that killed two people, including an additional superintendent of police, in 2014.

He said Bishnu Narzari, Nitul Daimary and Runiluish Daimary have been charged under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act (Unlawful Activity) Act (UAPA).

The charge sheet was filed before the Special NIA Court in Guwahati on Friday.

The case relates to an ambush that resulted in injuries to the then Additional Superintendent of Police, Gulzar Hussain and Asaniya Basumatari of Sonitpur and several police personnel in Assam’s Sonitpur district.

The two accused named in the charge sheet – Narzari and Nitul Daimary – have been convicted in another case in which the former has been sentenced to death while the latter has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Two other NDFB cadres – Kham Kham Daimary and Junu Basumtari – who were involved in the case were killed in separate encounters with the security forces.

Further investigation in the case is going on.
