White Ferns captain Sophie Devine will miss the one-day series against Australia, New Zealand Cricket (NZC), which was confirmed on Saturday. The one-day squad will depart to return to Wellington, along with Spirit batsman Kate Anderson from Divine Northern Districts. Devine did not play the last two GJ Gardner Holmes T20s against Australia due to fatigue and it has been decided for his rest period. White Ferns head coach Bob Carter said the decision was made in Divine’s best interest.
“As I said earlier in the week, it’s about prioritizing Sophie’s needs first,” Carter said in an official statement.
Carter confirmed that Northern District batsman Kate Anderson would join the team, while White Ferns vice-captain Amy Satterthwaite would continue to lead the side in Sophie’s absence.
“Amy performed brilliantly in the final two T20s and brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role.”
“This is a great opportunity for Kate to join the White Ferns team for the first time. She fit really well with the New Zealand XI at Queenstown earlier this year and we accompanied her to Mt. Eager to stay. ” He added.
Meanwhile, Canterbury magician Seamer Le Tahu has joined the team following the disappearance of the T20 series.
Tahu has recovered from his hamstring injury and attended training on Saturday.
