New Galaxy Watch will launch this month and that’s not all from Samsung

August 11 has been confirmed as the date for Samsung’s next massive product launch – and we can’t wait to find out exactly what’s in store.

The Korean tech giant has promised to reveal a swathe of new devices at its Unpacked showcase, saying it will be the “next chapter in mobile innovations designed to help you make the most of every moment, no matter where you are.”

Two new Galaxy Watches are expected to be among the biggest announcements at the event, which is themed “Get Ready to Unfold”.

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is an upgrade from the current Galaxy Watch 3 Classic. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 4 will update the Galaxy Watch Active 2.

Yes, you spotted it – they’re skipping a number. But it’s most likely not a mistake. Fans believe that Samsung is just merging its two watch lines under one name and numbering scheme, making it easier to follow product launches.

Like previous entries in the series, the two new watches are likely to have a touch screen and loads of features geared to health and sports fans – including new features like blood oxygen monitoring and advanced sleep tracking.

The biggest upgrade though, is the software. It will be powered by a new operating system developed in collaboration with Google. The new One UI Watch OS will combine Google’s software design and Samsung’s smartwatch apps and features. Samsung says this unified platform will “open up new features and integrations” with popular third-party apps available to download from Google Play directly on your Galaxy Watch.

Some videos rumoured to be of the new watches have been leaked on Twitter, showing off some of the impressive graphics and fitness stats.

Other products expected to be unveiled include new entries in Samsung’s iconic foldable phones line: The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. If regular smartphones are more your thing, watch out for a new cheaper flagship, the Galaxy S21 FE.

Samsung’s wireless earbuds will also get an update – the Galaxy Buds 2 are rumoured to now include Active Noise Cancellation.

Announcing the news on its website, Samsung laid out its big ambitions for the launch event: “We live in a time of accelerated change—from rapid shifts in work culture to the rise of cutting-edge communication technologies. Now more than ever there is a need for flexible, versatile mobile devices that can keep up with the fast pace of our lives so we can maximize and enjoy every moment.”

Keen fans will be able to watch the event online through YouTube and Samsung.com. As for when you can start splashing the cash on all these new gadgets, insiders think they will go on sale within weeks. August 27 is rumoured to be the most likely date.
