NDRF 10th Battalion soldiers conduct ‘Swachhta Abhiyan’ in Krishna River

Officials of the 10th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have started a ‘Krishna River Clean Up’ operation under the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.

Around 300 NDRF personnel along with Commandant Zahid Khan, Deputy Commandant Sukhendu Dutta and Dilbag Singh participated in the drive on Monday at Sithanagaram village in Guntur district.

The NDRF cleaned the bathing ghats at the Krishna River bank, Sitanagaram village and the lower part of the Prakasam barrage. They removed the linen, worship material and flowers glued to the river.

“NDRF personnel and divers went to the river, collected garbage under water and shifted it to the garbage heap. He also cleaned the bathing ghats. Around 400 expert swimmers and deep divers participated in the cleanliness drive, ”said Mr. Khan.

Many devotees took a holy dip in the river and worshiped during Mahashivaratri, garbage was dumped at many places and bathing ghats in the Krishna River. The commandant said the collected waste was transferred to the dumping yard through vehicles arranged by the Mangalagiri municipality and the NDRF battalion.

“We request devotees and the general public not to pollute the rivers and other water bodies and keep them clean,” Mr. Khan said and praised the jawans for carrying out the cleanliness drive extensively to protect the environment.
