Egyptian coach Shockey Garib told AFP on Thursday that Liverpool striker Mohammad Salah was set to add significant weight behind the country’s quest for an Olympic football medal for the first time in Tokyo. The former Egyptian player said, “I have made it public that I want to include him in our Olympic campaign and he has not ruled out, which means he wants to play with us as well.” “Sala’s participation in the Olympics is supported by the state, represented by the Sports Ministry and the Egyptian Football Association, for the first time in our concerted effort to win an Olympic medal in football,” he said.

He said the “three-way” decision would be for Salah, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and the poor themselves.

Despite Liverpool’s stuttering title defense, Salah is this season’s joint English Premier League top-scorer with Harry Kane at 17, with 25 goals in all competitions.

“Salah, as one of the three best players at the international level, will raise pharaohs at the Olympics to a whole new level.”

“His presence with us will make a big difference,” he said.
