Amazon has announced its increasing the price of Amazon Prime for millions of users. Amazon Prime – which gives access to the hugely popular Prime Video streaming service as well as speedy Prime delivery – is getting a price hike in the US, where it’s going up from $119 a year to $139 annually, while monthly charges are increasing by $2 to $14.99. It hasn’t been announced if users in other regions like the UK will be hit with similar price rises soon, but if you want to avoid being left with an increased bill there’s a clever trick you can deploy today to help your wallet.
If you sign up to a yearly Amazon Prime membership right now it will lock the price in as it currently stands for the next 12 months.
In the UK an Amazon Prime membership costs £7.99 a month or £79 for a year.
If you opt to pay for 12 months access all in one go right now you’ll avoid having to pay for any potential price rises that get announced in 2022.
While US subscribers who sign up to a yearly Prime membership right now will avoid the fast-approaching price rise.
For those in the States the new Amazon Prime prices will kick in on February 18 for new members and after March 25 for existing ones.
And the online retail giant isn’t the only ones that are raising prices this year.

The Amazon Prime price news comes not long after Netflix also announced it was increasing prices Stateside, with the number one streaming service’s Premium plan (which offers 4K viewing) increasing by $2 a month to $19.99.
The basic Netflix plan (which offers non-HD streaming) is increasing from $8.99 a month to $9.99.
Once again, Netflix hasn’t announced whether the price rise will be hitting other regions, but previous US price rises have preceeded increases for users in other areas.
While the upcoming price rises may be a bitter blow for some subscribers to swallow, the amount of exclusive content heading to both services could sway people to fork up the extra cast.
Netflix recently announced that it will be releasing over 70 exclusive films in 2022 – that’s over one new film release each week.
While Prime Video will be getting the highly anticipated Lord of the Rings TV show in September which is the most expensive TV show ever made.
That’s in addition to other exclusive Prime Video content launching in 2022 such as the third series of hit dark superhero show The Boys.
