Microsoft joined the foldable devices bandwagon last year with the Surface Duo. Rumours about the next-generation Surface Duo have been started doing the rounds. The latest rumour comes from Windows Central and suggests that the Surface Duo 2 (unsubstantiated name) could get a camera upgrade.
According to a report by Windows Central, the Surface Duo 2 could feature a triple-camera setup at the back. There would be a main camera along with ultra-wide and telephoto lenses. Windows Central has shared the leaked images and the camera module looks quite big. One can also see the LED flash and perhaps a laser autofocus on the camera bump.
In terms of other design elements, the Surface Duo 2 could sport a similar design to its predecessor. However, the fingerprint sensor could be embedded within the power button. Also, the USB-C port may be shifted to the right side of the Surface Duo 2.
The rumoured launch date of Surface Duo 2 is being pegged around September or October this year. The device is expected to ship with Qualcomm’s latest processor — unlike the Surface Duo which had a slightly ‘outdated’ processor. Microsoft is reportedly making the display slightly bigger with thinner bezels. There’s no word on the colour variants but frosted back and frosted white could be retained by Microsoft.
Microsoft had launched the Surface Duo at $1,399 but soon reduced it to $999. We can expect the pricing of Surface Duo 2 to be somewhere between the two figures. However, Microsoft is not known to make ‘cheap’ hardware so the price could be higher as well. In the coming months leading up to the launch, expect more rumours and leaks detailing what will be the second foldable device from the house of Microsoft.
