58 years old. For Maniraj, the assembly election gave a new twist to his life. He has jumped into the ground.
After venturing into manufacturing in 1989 with a bank loan of ₹ 20,000, Mr. Maniraj worked long hours and took on many tasks employing 25 persons. When Bureau of Indian Standards marking became mandatory for pumps in 2006, they set up the Kovai Power Driven Pump Manufacturers Association (Kopma), an industrial body to represent the difficulties facing micro units.
“In 2015, when there was an economic downturn [the micro units] Suffered a loss. This was followed by demonetisation. The government implemented GST when we came out of it. We have yet to recover from the impact of GST. Then, it was epidemic. Although the government supported micro, small and medium enterprises [MSMEs] In June last year, it did not help all micro units. Worse, there was no one to lift the plight of these units. None of our elected representatives came to our rescue, ”says Mr. Maniraj.
Therefore, with the support of the Kopma members, they decided to contest the election. “I represent MSMEs and the industries here. MSMEs should become a vote bank to attract the attention of the government. We need to constantly strive with the government for our needs. I think if I am an elected representative I can do it better. Only entrepreneurs who constantly interact with workers and other industry owners can understand the challenges facing MSMEs, ”says Mr. Maniraj.
He said that his decision has been welcomed by many MSMEs and some big industries here are also supporting him.
He will file his nomination as an independent candidate from Singanallur. “If I join any party, only the supporters of that party will vote for me. I represent MSMEs, and am seeking the support of the entire industry and workers in these units.
