A meteorite is believed to have lit up the sky above eastern Cuba and caused an explosion, island scientists said on Saturday. There were no reports of damage or injury.
Enrique Arango Arius, the head of the National Seismological Service, told the official CubeDebate news site that the incident was seen in the cities of Moa, Sagua de Tanamo and Massey.
He added that the service’s equipment “registered an extended wave” of the explosion.
Social media users saw the red and white light after the explosion at around 10.06 am local time on Friday.
