Chipset maker MediaTek has announced two new chipsets in its Helio G series for budget Android smartphones. The new chipsets are Helio G96 and Helio G88. The newest chipsets in the Helio G series offer support for up to 120Hz refresh rate panels along with 108MP cameras.
The MediaTek Helio G96 SoC offers support for 120Hz displays with up to FullHD+ resolution and has no limitation in DDIC supply, C-phy or D-phy interface, and supports both LCD or AMOLED display. It can support up to 108MP cameras. In terms of connectivity, there’s Cat-13 4G LTE WorldMode modem integration, dual 4G SIM and VoLTE and ViLTE services.
On the other hand, the MediaTek Helio G88 SoC supports 90Hz displays. It comes with an octa-core CPU featuring two Arm Cortex-A75 CPUs operating at up to 2.0GHz. The Helio G88 comes with support for up to 64MP main cameras, a hardware depth engine for dual-camera bokeh captures, a Camera Control Unit (CCU) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) technologies.
Both the chipsets may be seen in Android phones in the budget to mid-range segment. Also, both the chips are 4G-enabled only and there’s no support for 5G.
Meanwhile, for the first time, OnePlus will be launching a phone with a MediaTek chipset with the launch of the OnePlus Nord 2 5G. OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus Nord 2 5G will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI chipset. Till now, all OnePlus smartphones that were launched in the country were powered by Qualcomm chipsets.
