A record six-time boxing world champion, Mary Kom, has stated that this year’s Olympic event will be her final performance, whether she wishes to or not. The London 2012 bronze medalists have already qualified for Tokyo and will travel to Japan for their second Summer Games in July this year. Mary Kom told the Olympic Channel, “Tokyo will be my last Olympics. Age matters here. I’m 38 now. 39. Four (three) years is a long time.”
To participate in Tokyo 2020, the age limit for boxers initially was 40 years. The games were postponed for a year due to COVID-19, which was increased to 41. Turned 38 this March, Mary Kom will exceed the current limit. The time for the next Olympics in Paris is around 2424.
“Pretty sure, even if I am ready to move to Paris by 2024, I won’t be allowed to,” she said.
The boxer, who won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, said that being an Olympian meant a lot to him and that his career as a boxer would have diminished “if I didn’t compete in the Olympics.”
“It means a lot to me to be an Olympian. I have been boxing for 20 years. I have participated in many international tournaments. I have been a world champion,” he said.
“But I had to wait for my turn to participate in the Olympics because until 2012 women’s boxing was not in the Games.
Mary Kom said, “Eventually, it happened, and I’m glad I did. I think the value of my career as a boxer would have diminished.
He said that winning medals at the Olympics is a dream and it changes lives.

He said, “The Olympics are huge. It is a dream for any player to win and win a medal in the Games. It changes lives.”
“Being an Olympian and winning bronze also changed my life. It also inspired many women to play, especially boxing. I feel proud. I want more and more girls to come out and struggle.” I hope there is no restriction on them to come. Fight outside and for yourself and your country, “she said.
