France boss Didier Deschamps praised the form of Anthony Marshall of Manchester United after a 2–0 win in Kazakhstan.
The world champion won the first half of Osman Dembélé thanks to his own first-half victory and his own goal just before the break, securing his first win of the qualifying campaign after the Ukraine opener trailed 1–1.
Marshall was one of several players made early in the XI, although he was forced to be injured early in the second half.
What did Deschamps say?
Speaking at the press conference after the game, Deschamps addressed the form of both Marshall and Dembele: “They did some interesting things.
“Osman has confirmed that he is coming back on the right track. He is capable of sprinting and spacing repeatedly. He was rewarded with his goal.
Anthony was behind the opening goal. This is good for both of them.
He said, “From the moment I selected him, he is in the team to use. I have other attackers in this squad. But for the opponent’s profile, it was important to commit and dribble opponents.
“They both did it very well.”
What happened to Marshall?
In the second half, Marshall broke into the box on the left. As he attempted to bite inside, he was slightly heavier with his touch and as he stretched the ball to win, his stud was caught in the prosthetic surface.
Initially, he seemed to be in some pain after the replays that he had jerked his knee and there was a fear that he might suffer serious damage.
However, he was able to play for several minutes and hit a powerful free kick with an injured leg. When he was replaced, he left the field with a noticeable limb.
