Manipal Ramsay to sell Malaysian unit to Simi Derby

Manipal Health Enterprises said on Friday that it would divest its Malaysian business into Ramsay Syme Darby Healthcare. The company, however, did not disclose the value of the deal.

Established in 2016, the 220-bed Manipal Hospital, Klang, is a high-end tertiary care hospital accredited by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health.

Trauma center

According to Dilip Jose, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Manipal Hospitals, provides more than 30 specialty services, including Klang’s only trauma center.

The split comes as Manipal Hospitals is gearing up for the smooth integration of Columbia Asia Hospitals India, whose acquisition is nearing completion.

Bengaluru-headquartered Manipal Hospital is among the top five healthcare providers in the country, serving over three million patients annually, providing affordable, quality healthcare in home care as well as multi-specialty and tertiary care Huh.

With 10 tertiary / quadrant care facilities and four secondary care hospitals, Manipal Hospital operates and manages about 6,000 beds across 14 hospitals.

With the acquisition of Columbia Asia Hospitals, the integrated organization will have pan-India footprints of 7 hospitals in 15 cities and 26 hospitals with over 7,300 beds, a talent pool of over 4,000 doctors and over 10,000 employees.

Equity funding

As a part of this acquisition, Manipal announced an equity funding of ₹ 2,100 crore from the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) in April.

Ranipal Pai, chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group, said the investment would help many more geographies and underground communities move faster with ‘spectacular clinical outcomes’.
