The judge also sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment and fined him 5,000 under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012.
All the convictions will run concurrently, the judge said in his judgment on Monday (March 8).
Chandra Hemadi was charged with sexual misconduct of 21 boys in Bindur, Gangoli, Kollur and Kundapur police limits of Udupi district in 2018. Hemmadi claimed to be a journalist and visited interior locations in the district. He promised to write about issues affecting the villagers. He persuaded many parents to send their children with them, saying that they feared to roam alone in the jungles.
Some boys, who were undergoing trauma after the incident, provided counseling, in which they revealed the crime. The Bindoor police registered a case and arrested Hemdi. The first of the 21 cases convicted on March 8 were against him.
In the judgment, the judge said of the total fine of ₹ 10,000, 5,000 5,000 should be paid as compensation to the victim.
