The rest of the universities in the state followed the procedure given under GO for marks and also issued marksheets. However, students were given the option to improve their marks by appearing in supplementary examinations conducted online. Those supplementary examinations were conducted by various universities on different dates starting from October 12, 2020.

While some universities had conducted such examinations, some others had examinations going on. One of them, Alagappa University, had scheduled the examinations in April, the government said. E. Manoharan, an affidavit submitted to the court by the Special Government Petitioner (Higher Education), also stated that 1,09,518 students of Madras University benefited from the GO and 60,793 of them had chosen to take the supplementary examination held between December 21 . 2020 and February 26, 2021. Similarly, 18,086 out of 40,675 students had opted to take the examination to be conducted by Bharatidasan University in Tiruchi from February 24 this year.

As far as Tirunelveli’s Manonayaniyam Sundaranar University is concerned, 28,336 out of 50,969 beneficiaries had chosen to take the supplementary exam, to improve their marks, between 14 December and 10 January. Alagappan University had scheduled the examinations in April itself. The court urged all the universities to give four more weeks to complete the final report after completing the conduct of supplementary examinations.

However, the bench did not take up the matter for a detailed hearing on Thursday due to the punctuality, so it was adjourned for the next week.
