The Renewables arm of Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission and Distribution Business has ordered the 1.5 GW Sudair Solar PV project to be set up in Riyadh province, Saudi Arabia.
The company did not disclose the value of the contract, but said the orders fall under the ‘major’ category, which is between ₹ 5,000 crore and ₹ 7,000 crore according to the classification of the contract.
According to a company statement, Renewables’ arm has bagged a turnkey EPC contract from the consortium of 1.5GW (gigawatt) capacity Sudar Solar PV Project for ACWA Power and Water and Electricity Holding Company. The project is believed to be Saudi Arabia’s largest solar plant with a power purchase agreement (PPA) signed. It is one of the largest plants in the world.
T. Madhav Das, full-time director and senior executive VP (utilities), L&T, said, “We have been building efficient power transmission and distribution networks with modern substations and transmission lines in the region for more than two decades.”
“This is yet another recognition of our capabilities for building mega projects at speed and scale.”
The upcoming project in Riyadh province has 30.8 km किमी. The land parcel is available to install a total capacity of 1.5 GW PV solar modules with available single-axle trackers and inverters.
“Solar GPC has emerged as a global technology player for L&T solar plants, with many GWs experience,” said SN Subrahmanyan, CEO and MD.
L&T has utility solar projects of more than 2.1 GW and is also operating and maintaining many of them.
