A video on the traditional fishing practice of Kashmir which is mainly associated with Anchor Lake
‘Tchchi-e-Bagh hunting’ is a traditional form of fishing in Kashmir. Historical practice is also known as shadow fishing. It is particularly associated with the Anchor Lake in the Saura region of Srinagar.
Fishermen equipped with harps on wooden boats. They hide under clothes or temporary umbrellas at the nook of the boat.
This causes a shadow on the water that attracts the fish. Fishermen attack the fishmonger from their port.
This fishing technique is usually done during winter. This occurs when fishes stay below the surface of the water due to the cold and swim to the shadows for food.
