Lok Sabha passed the National Capital Territory Bill

The government introduced the bill and got it approved in the Rajya Sabha in February in the first part of the budget session.

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Second (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which seeks to regularize the unauthorized colonies present in the National Capital Territory of Delhi on 1 June 2014, and saw development. 50% as of January 2015.

Speaking on the bill, Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “There was a public perception that issues regarding unauthorized colonies were delayed by those who were previously in office.”

“In 1947, 17% of the total population of the country lived in urban areas, at that time Delhi had a population of eight lakhs. After partition and relocation, it increased to 22 lakhs, and I expect that during the 2021 census, the population will be close to two crore people, ”he said.

Mr. Puri also cited a letter received from the Delhi government to his ministry for expanding the survey of unauthorized colonies. “That’s why we brought this bill,” he said.

Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi said that a large number of people living in unauthorized colonies in Delhi are not getting proper facilities and this bill has given ownership to those living in these colonies. This will make it easier to access institutional credit and will also improve infrastructure.

The bill was then passed by voice vote. The government introduced the bill and it was approved in the first part of the budget session in the Rajya Sabha in February.
