After months of rumours and speculation, Samsung is finally about to lift the lid on its all-new Galaxy S22 smartphones. The firm’s next major Unpacked event will take place on February 9, with the star of the show almost certain to be the feature-packed new Galaxy S22 Ultra model.
Speculation is rife that this phone will feature the return of the S Pen stylus, which allows users to scribble on the screen – that’s not something we’ve seen since Samsung ditched its Note range of phones back in 2020. To add fuel to the fire, Samsung has also teased fans with an invite that mentions the word “noteworthy” along with a handwritten message scribbled across.
We’ll find out full details next Wednesday, but it seems Android fans are already feeling pretty excited about these upcoming devices.
According to research from the team at SellCell, around 20 percent of all Android users surveyed are considering switching over the new Galaxy S22. Although 20 percent may not sound like a huge number, if those figures do become a reality it could make the S22 a giant hit for Samsung. That’s due to the sheer number of people that use Android devices on a daily basis.
It also seems that many are looking forward to seeing the Ultra arrive in stores with a whopping 44.4 percent of those surveyed saying they are likely to opt for this top-of-the-range model. The S22 standard model could also be popular with around 30 percent saying this is the device they want in their pockets.
Speaking about the stats, SellCell said: “Strong S22 upgrade intentions of 20% across all Android models, coupled with equally strong secondary market figures from SellCell’s internal data, tells us that the S22 could prove incredibly popular and, yes, is likely to prove a success for Samsung.”
As well as this news worrying rival Android manufacturers, Apple might also want to keep a close eye on its rival.
Due to supply issues and a launch date that hit right in the middle of the global pandemic, the Galaxy S21 range didn’t perform quite as well as expected with the iPhone taking advantage and becoming the best-selling smartphone brand in the world.
SellCell is now speculating that the S22 range could help to put Samsung back on top.
“Samsung released its Galaxy S21 range back in February 2021, amidst a global health crisis and worldwide electronic component shortage,” SellCell said in a blog post. “It was around the same time that Apple overtook Samsung as the best-selling smartphone brand in the world. Samsung, it seemed, had fallen foul of the havoc that 2021 wrought across the entire tech industry.
“However, it would appear that all was not lost in the war with Apple. SellCell has carried out a survey of upgrade intention among Android users, discovering that the S22 might be the smartphone that puts Samsung back at the zenith point of smartphone sales.”
