Kevin de Bruyne has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at Manchester City until 2025, the Premier League club announced on Wednesday. The Belgian international, whose current deal was scheduled to expire in 2023, is 30 in June and is now set to see the rest of his career at the Etihad Stadium. De Bruyne has made a stunning spell since winning seven major trophies since joining the club from Wolfsburg in 2015, which could increase to 11 by the end of the season if City were successful in their hunt for a quadruple.

“I couldn’t be happier,” De Bruin said. “Since joining the city in 2015, I have felt at home. I love the fans, my family has settled here in Manchester and my own game has not been really good.

“This football club is poised for success. It offers me everything I can to maximize my performance, so signing this contract was a straightforward decision.

“I’m playing the best football of my career and I honestly think there’s more to do.”

He said that he and manager Pep Guardiola had the same football vision.

“Having a relationship with a manager is so important to me because our objectives are perfectly aligned, and we want the same things,” he said.

Football’s city director Txiki Begiristain regarded de Bruyne as one of the best players in world football.

“His performance level has remained remarkably consistent since his arrival at City, and over the years he has developed into one of the sport’s elite players,” he said.

“His talent is undeniable – but he is also a consummate professional whose time in Manchester City’s dedication to it is nothing short of remarkable here.”
