Kerala Election: Kerala Congress in a tie over election symbol

The entry of a small organization led by a Congress rebel in Changanassery adds to the confusion.

Despite waiting for the allocation of a new election symbol since the merger of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Kerala Congress plans to ensure a common symbol for all its candidates in the upcoming assembly elections, one with lust Impacts blockade. Entry of a small organization into voting.

According to party sources, all the 10 candidates fielded by the Kerala Congress (KC) had demanded a ‘tractor’ as their election symbol. However, in Changanassery, he will have to compete with Congress rebel Babichan Mukkadan, who contests as the Indian Christian Secular Party candidate for the symbol.

Concerned with the development, the KC leadership is now working overtime to convince Mr Mukkadan to withdraw his nomination. “We are still hopeful that he will take a favorable decision for the last date for withdrawal of nomination on 23 March,” a top KC leader said.

If Mr. Mukkadan decides to withdraw the bench, the symbol will be allocated on a toss of a coin. Meanwhile, the party is confident of receiving more nuisance symbols without its remaining nine candidates.

After its merger with the PC Thomas faction, the party tried to reclaim its old symbol ‘Cycle’, which was not interrupted due to the delay in approaching the ECI. Subsequently, the party candidates in their nominations marked ‘Tractor’ as the second and third option, besides ‘Coconut tree’ and ‘Football’ as their preferred election symbol.

“The merger has only taken place in principle and PC Thomas, who remains the party president on paper, has already supported our candidates as party candidates. The move is now awaiting clearance from the ECI, which may take some time and, therefore, candidates are likely to contest with symbols allotted by the respective Returning Officers ”, the leader said.

The uncertainty over the symbol also forced candidates to delay filing nominations until Friday afternoon, with just one-two hours for the delay. In view of the confusion, the party candidates submitted three sets of nominations demanding different election symbols and the dummy nominations would be withdrawn on the allotment of the desired mark.
