The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suffered a major setback after the nomination of party candidates in Thalassery and Guruvayur constituencies during the probe on Saturday.
NDA candidate in Thalassery and BJP district president N. The nomination papers of Haridas were rejected on the ground that the form (A) submitted by Mr. Haridas did not have the signature of BJP President JP Nadda.
Mr. Haridas told the media that he filed his nomination at 12 noon on Friday. “When this issue was brought to our attention, we found a document online and tried to submit it at 3 pm. However, the RDO refused to accept the document and also the affidavit submitted by them,” he said.
Mr. Haridas said that he would approach the Supreme Court to accept his nomination.
The rejection of the nomination, however, has cured the BJP, as the party has a substantial vote share in the constituency, despite the fact that it is the stronghold of the LDF which has won all elections since 1977. In 2016 assembly elections, BJP candidate VK Sajeevan received 22,125 votes.
The CPI (M) has fielded sitting MLA AN Shamser who defeated UDF candidate AP Abdullakutty in 2016 by a margin of 34,117 votes.
NDA nominee and Mahila Morcha state president Nivedita’s nomination papers at Guruvayur were rejected as the BJP president’s signature was not in the affidavit submitted with the nomination. Since the nomination of the dummy candidate was also incomplete, the BJP has no candidate in the constituency.
NK Akbar of CPI (M) and KNA Khader of IUML are the other main contestants in Guruvayur. Earlier, the nominations of three Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidates were not accepted as they had failed to file them on time.
LDF, UDF Trade Fees
The rejection of nomination filed by BJP candidates has brought about the politics of adjusting the UDF and LDF’s trade charges for electoral gains. While KPCC President Mullappally Ramachandran alleged that it exposed the deal between CPI (M) and BJP, CPI (M) district secretary MV Jayarajan termed it as the result of a secret understanding between UDF and BJP.
Devikulam Candidate
Meanwhile, the nomination papers of NDA candidate Dhanalakshmi Marimuthu of Devikulam assembly constituency were also rejected by the Returning Officer on Saturday. Ms. Dhanalakshmi is the candidate of the AIADMK, the BJP’s alliance partner in the NDA. The nomination papers were rejected on the grounds that the candidate had failed to complete Form 26. However, Ms Marimuthu said that the same models of nomination papers were submitted for Devikulam and Udumbachola constituencies and that she would approach the Election Commission.
NDA won Independent candidate S. S. in Devikulam. Ganesan has been chosen as its candidate. NDA Camp will start work for Mr. Ganesh from Sunday.
