Congress workers were almost agitated at the party’s district committee meeting on Saturday for the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate in Elathur constituency in Kozhikode, for two days for withdrawing nomination papers for the assembly elections. Office.
Currently, Senin Rashi, a student leader of the Bharatiya Rashtriya Janata Dal (BNJD), Sulphikkar Mayuri of the Nationalist Congress Kerala (NCK) and Congress rebel Yuvi Dinesh Mani – all UD allies have filed their nomination papers.
Initially, the Althur seat was offered to the BNJD, which has some political presence in the constituency. The party has committees in five gram panchayats and five elected representatives are in the Chellanoor gram panchayat. MK. Raghavan, Kozhikode MP, and local Congress leader, are in opposition to Mr Mayuri’s candidacy, who claim they are not familiar with the constituency.
The Saturday meeting was called by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee to come to a consensus, which was mediated by KPCC executive chairman KV Thomas. Shortly after the meeting began in the morning, the minor reshuffle occurred when it was announced that only senior leaders needed to stay back and others could leave. Mr Thomas later learns that local leaders have accepted Mr Mayuri’s candidacy.

However, Mr. Raghavan categorically declared that he was not prepared to do so. He also offered to resign from the post of MP in protest and walked out of the meeting. There were reports that Mr. Mani was proposed by Mr. Raghavan. It was decided that another meeting would be held later in the afternoon.
However, the deadlock continued, with Mr Thomas later telling the media that the workers’ sentiments would be conveyed to the KPCC leadership and another round of discussions would be held with DCC officials in the coming days.
