Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday started the work of aut 480 crore in 114 unauthorized colonies and sewerage project in six villages of Kirari and Mundka assembly constituencies.
Speaking at the launch in Kirari, Kejriwal said that despite the lack of funds, he came to fulfill a promise made during the Delhi Assembly elections last year that sewerage work would begin.
“I remember visiting the region and touring all the streets before the elections. You all were upset with me. Many roads were in monotonous condition, sewers were overflowing, many lanes were filled with garbage. Your bitterness with me was justified. I am here today to fulfill my promise.
He said that the Delhi government had already provided water to every house in Kirari. Now it aims to provide sewer lines to every house and good roads and streets in the next four years.
The sewerage project is being carried out by the Delhi Jal Board and a population of 7.25 lakh is expected to benefit under the Sewerage Master Plan 2031.
The Delhi government said that this area has already been covered under the water supply system.
The government said that the scheme is designed to facilitate the public at large, with the facility of sewerage system to live in these colonies and villages to achieve better sanitary conditions and reduce pollution of Yamuna For, the government added.
Under the scheme, there are provisions for laying sewer lines approximately 423 km in length. The scope of work also includes construction of waste water pumping stations at Prem Nagar, Bhagya Vihar, and Pratap Vihar with a capacity of 6.5, 9.0 and 41 MGD respectively.
