Kamalpreet Kaur qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in the women’s discus throw event with a national record effort of 65.06 meters during the Athletics Federation Cup on Friday. The Olympic qualification benchmark is 63.5 meters. Kaur has set a new national record in women’s discus throw, breaking the previous record held by Krishna Poonia when she threw 64.76 meters in 2012. This is also the first time that 65 meters marking has been done in women’s discus throw by an Indian.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) said in a tweet, “Congratulations to Kamalpreet Kaur, who qualified for Tokyo 2020 with a national record effort of 65.06 meters in the women’s discus. It is also above the Olympic qualification benchmark . ” .

The Athletic Federation of India (AFI) tweeted, “By 2020 in Tokyo. Kamalpreet Kaur broke the women’s discus national record with an effort of 65.06 meters (Olympic qualification standard 63.50 meters).

The Tokyo Olympics, originally held last year, were postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic, and will be held from July 23 to August 8.
